Site Update

Hey guys, this is Patrick here just wanting to say sorry, for well you probably have noticed I haven't updated the site much lately. This doesn't mean that news hasn't happened I just have been a little busy here if you know what I mean. This is ONLY me doing this site as you probably know. As I do try to keep up with the news as much as I can, I just don't have the time right now to post. Again I apologize. I feel I owe you guys an explanation, but all I have is that I am in college right now and trying to keep up with schoolwork, play games, and run a website can become a handful. I will let you know that I'm not going to quit on you, but I will not be posting as often as normal. I will still try and post the VC updates, XBLA, PSN, and New Releases, but I can make no promises. But hey, if any of you guys out there are interested in video games and have the time to help out feel free to send me an E-mail at Patrick@forthegamer.net and tell me about yourself, why you want to write about video games, and I will try and see what I can do. Other than that talk to you next time. Peace.

DVR Coming to the PS3

I don't know if games is a top priority over at Sony or not because lately all you here is about them trying to be more of an entertainment device. Today they follow those footsteps once again. They have announced that they are bringing DVR functionality, called Play TV, to the PS3. To the people who don't know what a DVR is it stands for Digital Video Recorder. The entire purpose of this is to record television to the hardrive of the PS3 and use the PS3 as a sort of TiVo. Sony has said you will be able to record content from one channel while watching another. It will also be able to handle HD content and have the ability to stream to the PSP through Remote Play anywhere in the world. Don't get me wrong here. This is some cool stuff, heck it's even incredible, but if Sony wants to sell their system as a gaming machine they need games. It just doesn't seem like a top priority to them anymore.

Go! Messenger for the PSP

Today Sony announced the new messenger planned for the PSP called Go! Messenger. The messenger will come free with a firmware update. The messenger will have the capability for text chat to other PSP users from the get go, but you can also purchase a microphone and video camera to send voice and video across to other users. While this has only been scheduled to be released in Europe in January '08 I'm sure it will eventually end up in the Americas soon afterward.

Wii Finally Catches 360 On Total Worldwide Sales

According to the report, total Wii units sold stand at 10.6 million, slightly more than the Xbox 360's estimated 10.5 million. Since its release, the Wii has outsold 360 by a margin of more than 2 to 1.

By comparison, Sony's PS3 has sold just 4.3 million systems worldwide since launching last November.

The news marks the first time that Nintendo has been the leader in both the home console and handheld markets since 1994 when the company's Super NES and Game Boy lines reigned supreme. Currently, the DS and Wii are the top two selling system's in the industry.

Additionally, the report claims despite continued shortages, Wii has managed to become the fasting selling console of all time selling at a greater pace than the most widely purchased console in history, Sony's PlayStation 2.

"In just two years, home console sales for the three major manufacturers have effectively reversed," said VG Chartz in a statement on its website. "This will have a large impact on third party publishers and will undoubtedly influence the decisions they make in the future."

Warhawk Honors Lucky 10 On Poster

In this poster (to the right, click to enlarge) Sony and Incognito have honored 5 of the top beta testers (based on points) and 5 of the top forum posters (based on posts). How did they honor them? Well if you look very closely at the poster you will see the names of the lucky 10 embedded on the Warhawks. I don't know whose idea this was, but congrats on the good job.

Fall '07 Dash Update Leaked?

I'm not a big fan of rumors and what not, but this actually does seem like it could be legit, but remember it is still a rumor until Microsoft confirms it.

Those Xbox message boards are always a cornucopia of information that Microsoft really doesn’t want us to know. That seems to be the case again, as Xbox.com forum goer by the name of “Post Up” has posted what appears to be the list for what we can expect in this fall’s Dashboard Update…

  • Compatibility with 3rd party wireless controllers
  • Compatibility with messenger pad
  • Xbox Live Vision firmware upgrade, sharper image filtering
  • Many more Vision Cam settings

  • New estimated timer for downloads, informing how long download will expect to take
  • [From XBox 360 Rally]

As I said before, it is still a rumor until Microsoft confirms it. By the way I told you it sounded legit, but if so why wouldn't have Microsoft taken it down? Do you really want to know the reason? Well if they took it down that would be sort of a "silent confirmation" that it was true, but if they leave it then they can just keep saying "we don't speculate on rumors" you know the regular PR bull.

    Big Daddy Broken? NO Problem

For those of you who bought the Limited Edition copy of Bioshock and opened it to find a broken Big Daddy, 2K says no problem. All you have to do is go over to their support site (not up as of yet) and get a new one sent back to you FREE and for the wait they will send you a FREE PRINTED copy of the BioShock: Breaking the Mold Art Book (can be found here in PDF Download for FREE).

    New 360 Core THIS Holiday?

A new rumor is traveling along the web today, which includes a new Xbox 360 Core for the holidays. Although this seems to be legit, it is still entirely a rumor until Microsoft confirms otherwise. The rumored Xbox 360 Arcade: Just Play! (new name obviously) will come with a wireless 360 controller, a 256 MB memory card, and 5 FREE Xbox Live Arcade games. The sources also state that this will sale at the same price as the current core model ($279).

    Paramount Goes HD DVD

Paramount, a neutral company in the High Def war, has decided to go over to the HD DVD side. Why would they do something like this you ask? Rumor has it that the tide turned to HD DVD's side after a $150 Million exclusivity deal was reached. In case you were wondering this deal includes Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks, Nickelodeon Movies, and MTV Movies. Also, for some reason, the deal doesn't include Spielberg films.

Can't we all just get along?
