PS3 Price Drop CONFIRMED, NEW PS3 Version, and MORE!

Sony has sure put up a big list of things they announced today. I will give a rundown of each announcement and expand on each. Just for your info this is all CONFIRMED, no rumors.

PS3 Price Drop- Yes, the rumors were true. Sony who just a few days ago denied the rumors of being true at all, today have announced that they are in fact true. The 60 GB PS3 will be able to be purchased for $499.

New PS3 Version- Yes, the third SKU for the PS3. The version will feature everything the 60GB has but will sport an 80GB hardrive and come bundled with MotorStorm. All of this for the price of $599, the new SKU will be available come August. This "New Version" does come with its downfalls. The 80GB will NOT Feature the Emotion Engine chips that the current U.S. Versions have. This means that, just like over in Europe, there will be less compatibility with PS2 and PS games. This is because the games will be emulated and will require the download of systematic updates for many of the games to work.

New Download Service for PSN
- With all the hype over the expected price drop many people have missed this announcement. In an attempt to play some "catch-up" with Microsoft, Sony has also announced that they are currently in plans of having a new download service for high-definition movies and TV shows. Although, Sony did officially announce these plans, they have yet to say when the service will be available.

Now I leave you with some words from our good ol' buddy Jack Tretton, the president of SCEA:
