PS3 Price Drop Temporary?

Recently Sony has announced a price drop of the 60 GB version of the PS3 for $500 and have replaced the normal sales price of $600 to the newer 80 GB version. Well, everyone thought that this would be a permanent price point. It turns out that it is not. In a recent interview, VG TV interviewed Kaz Hirai of Sony Computer Entertainment, who in the interview announced that the 60 GB version of the PS3 is "no longer in production" and that once the 60 GB version is sold out that the $500 price point for the PS3 will be gone (fast forward the interview to about 1:42). This means that the $100 price drop is really a "clearance" sale of the PS3 60 GB version. With so many things happening at Sony it is hard to tell what is wrong and what is right, but this is the second person to come forward from Sony to say that the $500 price point is temporary. A few days ago SCEE President David Reeves said about the same thing "All they're doing is taking their stock in trade that they've got at the moment of the 60GB model, marking the price down and it will all be gone by the end of July", but Sony has also made a public announcement that this is not true. Which is right Sony? Get your act together!

In my opinion this doesn't make any since for Sony to do this. I mean just recently the PS3 went to the top of the Best Seller list at Amazon since the announcement of the price drop. Now they want to take this away? Obviously something isn't right at Sony HQ, they need to have a big meeting and clear all this stuff up. Even with all the announcements of the PS3 price drop being temporary, it is just hard for me to believe this is true and I think it is here to stay. They may play with the different SKUs a little, like just do away with the 60 GB and bring just the 80 GB to $500 and make the bundle $600, but if Sony doesn't seem to know, how could I?
